Cisco Mobile Transport over Packet Solution Enables the Efficient High-Speed Connectivity Needed to Deliver Increasing Amounts of Mobile Internet Traffic

WARSAW, Poland, May 26, 2009 – Cisco today announced that Polish mobile operator PTC ERA is implementing the Cisco® Internet Protocol Next-Generation Network (IP NGN) architecture featuring the Cisco Mobile Transport over Packet (MToP) solution. With Cisco IP NGN technologies and expertise, service providers can transform themselves into experience providers, enabling them to deliver "the Connected Life." Those experience providers, like PTC ERA, are increasing their revenue opportunities with a reduced time to market by delivering new and differentiated voice, video, data and mobility services.
Key Facts / Highlights:

* This new deployment of the Cisco MToP solution for IP Radio Access Network (RAN) transport provides an all-IP network infrastructure from the aggregation site to the core.

* The new infrastructure for PTC ERA is central in delivering the scale, resiliency and efficiency needed to deliver incrementally increasing amounts of 3G and future 4G mobile IP traffic. According to the Cisco Visual Networking Index (VNI) Mobile Forecast for 2008-2013, worldwide mobile IP traffic is expected to increase 66-fold between 2008 and 2013.

* PTC ERA has transformed its nationwide network services for the high-capacity mobile Internet by providing a multifunctional IP-based system supporting any type of traffic. Support for various mobile subsystems from many vendors was a key differentiator and requirement.

* Cisco was selected as the technology provider best able to deliver a highly reliable IP-RAN transport to meet the ever-increasing demands of the mobile Internet transformation.

* PTC ERA requires a trusted IP vendor with both a breadth of solutions and a depth of knowledge and experience, and one that is ready and willing to deliver innovation.

* The MToP solution features the Cisco 7600 Series intelligent edge services router and the Circuit Emulation over Packet shared port adapter modules. The CEoP modules are designed to provide Pseudowire over MPLS support for 2G (TDM), 3G (ATM) services, and precise timing synchronization over packet-based Radio Access Networks.
